Apple TV+ got the rights to The Beanie Bubble, a film about the ‘90s toy craze. Zach Galifianakis and Elizabeth Banks will lead a star-studded cast.
The film will recall when collecting the stuffed animals from Ty, Inc. were a sensation that led to some of the products rising tremendously in value. And then falling.
The Beanie Bubble recalls an absurd time in investing
The Beanie Bubble is inspired by the story behind a speculative craze in American culture in the ’90s. The film will pull back the curtain on the female relationship with the American Dream. And it’ll celebrate the women who made the Beanie Baby into the phenomena it became.
The is the first film order to come from an exclusive first-look deal between Apple and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment.
The Beanie Bubble will star Emmy winner Zach Galifianakis (Between Two Ferns, Baskets), Emmy nominee Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Love and Mercy), Golden Globe winner Sarah Snook (Succession, Predestination) and Geraldine Viswanathan (Broken Hearts Gallery, Hala).
The film will be co-directed by Emmy nominee Kristin Gore (Saturday Night Live, Futurama) and Grammy winner Damian Kulash (OK Go).
Growing Apple TV+
When The Beanie Bubble premieres, it will join a wide range of content on Apple’s streaming service. Viewers can enjoy comedies, mysteries, thrillers, crime dramas, documentaries, sci-fi and much more. Watching any or all of them costs just $4.99 a month.
The most recent film addition was Swan Song, which manages to be an inspirational disease drama, a sleek sci-fi parable, and a clone movie all at once. The Cult of Mac review called it “is a deeply felt work with a magnificent central performance” from Mahershala Ali.
